I talked to my uncle the other day and he has recently bought a 10 foot inflatable Zodiac with a 10 horsepower gas-powered outboard. My cousin and I go to his house for a week every summer - he lives on an inland waterway in Rhode Island. He used to have a 17 foot Sea Ray but sold it because he didn't use it too much, and this summer he wanted to have something for my cousin and I to cruise around in on the water behind his house. There is a little beach behind his house that is large enough to land and launch the boat from. My cousin and I are both 15 and we both weigh around 115-120 lb. How fast do you think the boat would go full throttle, on calm water, with the both of us inside? If it was only one of us, how fast would it go?

The truth is, it will actually GO about 15 mph, but the fact is it will FEEL more like 30mph.
It will be fun - a blast in fact, and you can beach it. Have fun, be thankful, have a great time, and don't worry about speed.

A friend of mine gave me a 4 HP mercury outboard. He said it runs good, I haven't tested this yet. The trouble is the throttle shaft is broken off. Are these easy to repair? Or should Ijust dump the motor and buy a new one for a 14' Zodiac type inflatable?

Im looking at buying a Sea Wizard 2.5M Inflatable. Zodiac Class

They put out the same thrust near enough. The 2 stroke is a bit lighter, and a twin will always be smoother than any single. If you lose a cylinder due to fouled plug etc. the twin can keep running, although not much better than 1/3 revs. A single goes or not - with modern electrics and plugs this is not an issue now I 'spose.

The four stroke will use a very small amount of fuel. The two stroke may not be allowed in some areas.

I'd take the two-stroke if outright performance and minimal weight is crucial, otherwise the four stroke will be frugal and reliable from all reports. Studies on the lifetime costs of similar small outboards show that the total cost of ownership over five years is actually less for the two-stroke, taking into account the initial purchase cost, fuel and service costs. Unless the engines are close to each other in price this may also influence your decision.
